GPR Decat Pipes in 304 stainless steel for motorcycles, scooters and ATVs

A GPR Decat Pipe takes the place of the catalytic converter section on your bike's stock exhaust. GPR makes it from 304 stainless steel with visible TIG welds, in Italy, for one road bike, trail bike, scooter or ATV model. Here's what changes on the bike when it goes in.

What changes on the bike with a GPR Decat Pipe

The GPR Decat Pipe swaps one section of the stock exhaust, the part that holds the catalytic converter. On many models the header and the muffler stay where they are. This table compares the stock section with the Decat Pipe that replaces it.

On the bikeStock catalytic converter sectionGPR Decat Pipe
CatalystFactory catalyst in placeRemoved, and the kit has no catalyst
PipeFactory part304 stainless steel with visible TIG welds
Emissions classificationAs the bike left the factoryNot compliant with EPA/CARB certifications
Engine managementFactory calibrationSome kits require an ECU remap
Dash and exhaust valveNo changeSome models can show an "engine failure" message, and some valve-equipped bikes need a separate control unit

The catalyst always comes off. Everything else varies by model. Some bikes need fueling work, others need an extra part, and your bike's fitting notes name them.

Read the install notes before you order

GPR writes the fitting notes model by model, and a few Decat Pipes ask for more than bolting in. Some examples from the listings:

  • The older of the two Kawasaki KLE 500 Decat Pipes needs the original header cut.
  • On the newer of the two KTM 1290 Super Duke R listings, the original valve comes out, and a qualified workshop has to bypass the valve cables.
  • The BMW R1250GS kits need a separate control unit for the exhaust valve.
  • The Yamaha XTZ 600 Teneré kit includes a new heat shield, because it doesn't mount with the original one.
  • The 2018 to 2019 Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 kits and the KTM 690 Duke kits require ECU remapping.

For the Yamaha Tenere 700, GPR sells the Decat Pipe on its own or as a kit with a GPR Tech titanium skid plate.

Before you fit a Decat Pipe

What does a GPR Decat Pipe replace?

A GPR Decat Pipe replaces the catalytic converter section of the stock exhaust. It's a 304 stainless steel pipe with no catalyst inside, so the bike runs without one.

Is a GPR Decat Pipe certified by the EPA or CARB?

No. The Decat Pipes in this collection list "Not compliant with EPA/CARB certifications" as their emissions classification, and GPR classes them as race products.

Will my bike need ECU work after fitting a Decat Pipe?

Sometimes. Some kits state that they require an ECU remap, and the fitting notes on your bike's listing say whether yours does.

Why would the dash show an engine failure message after a Decat Pipe?

On some newer bikes, an aftermarket exhaust can trigger an "engine failure" message on the dash. GPR says only an additional control unit clears it. Among the Kawasaki Decat Pipes, the newer Ninja 400 and Z400 listings carry this note, and so do the Ninja 500, the Z500 and the latest KLE 500.

Does a Decat Pipe work with my stock muffler?

On many models it does. Those listings say the Decat Pipe fits with the original muffler or with a GPR kit. A few Decat Pipes fit only with a matching GPR kit.

Which bikes can take a GPR Decat Pipe?

GPR lists Decat Pipes for road bikes, trail bikes, scooters and ATVs from 1980 to present. Fit is only half of it: the installation notes on your bike's product page say whether the pipe works with the original muffler and whether the bike needs an ECU remap, a control unit or extra parts. Those notes matter as much as the fit.

Keep the muffler or not

The fitting notes tell you whether the pipe works with your original muffler or only with a matching GPR kit.

Weight by model

The listings give the pipe's weight. It runs 1.1 kg (2.43 lbs) to 3.9 kg (8.60 lbs), depending on the bike.

Which install notes apply to your bike?

A remap, a control unit or a header cut: the notes differ from one Decat Pipe to the next. Ask us about a listing, and we'll go through its notes line by line with you.
